·         We overcame the H1N1 pandemic!! The answer to the Public Health’s cry for help with the mass vaccination clinics was very well received.   35 nurses from our Hemodialysis unit helped out.  Great team work!!!

·         We held our Christmas and New Year eve staff pot luck again this year. We hope to start a new tradition as this is a great way to take time to sit down, unwind, laugh and taste great food among friends.   We invite you to try it !!!

Unit Activities:

1)      Education activities  Planning on sending 2-3 RN’s to CANNT Atlantic in Halifax being held in May.  We recently celebrated World Kidney Day with a Breakfast at the Trade and Convention Center in conjunction with the Kidney Foundation. A very informative talk by a kidney transplant recipient educated everyone about the importance of organ donation.

2)      Interesting projects or initiatives(ie: exercise program, new equip, research etc). We have recently implemented a new hospital wide computer system. We are slowly getting the kinks worked out and embracing the new technology. Undergoing new Med reconciliation for all our clients. This is another learning curve.

3)      Staff/Unit accomplishments you’d like recognized We have 3 nurses planning on writing their certification exams this year.

4)      Other information you would like to share with colleagues across Canada. Our newest Sattelite unit in upper River Valley has expanded to be open 6 days a week  to accomadate the increasing population  in that part of New Brunswick. The staff begin their training in Saint John  and complete it in the unit they plan to work in.
