Standards of Technical Practice Review- April 2013
April 4, 2013
Submitted by: Rejean Quesnelle, CANNT Vice-President of Technologists
The CANNT Standards of Nephrology Technical Practice were developed to provide a framework of principles and guidelines to enable all Nephrology Technologists to meet the high standards of quality and care for patients undergoing dialysis related therapies. The standards identify goals and objectives for nephrology technology professionals throughout Canada and outline the scope of practice in relation to a number of specific categories, such as job requirements, law and ethics, quality assurance, regulations, and professional development. The standards also promote and define the quality in nephrology technical practice that we have come to expect in our profession.
The standards are updated every two years to reflect current practices and guidelines. The review and update process is initiated by the Vice-president of Technologists in consultation with a reviewing committee. This process began late in 2012 with a ten member committee comprised of technologists and members of the board of directors. I would like to thank all of those who contributed both time and effort to improving the standards.
