After months of dedicated work by our CANNT Nursing Standards Revision committee and expert content reviewers, CANNT is pleased to be able to present the 2014 revised CANNT Nephrology Nursing Standards and Practice Recommendations. These can be found on the CANNT website and will also be made available in print form for sale at the CANNT booth during the conference in Niagara Falls.

The CANNT nursing standards have been developed to be congruent with national and provincial standards. They  are broad in scope, and allow for institutional and provincial interpretation and variation by providing a framework for nephrology nursing practice.

The nursing practice recommendations are a companion document for the nephrology nursing standards. These recommendations address the areas of chronic illness management, conservative management, advance care planning, palliative care, patient education and self management, blood pressure management, anemia, bone and mineral metabolism, nutrition and diet therapy, diabetes management, cardiovascular risk factor management, chronic kidney disease stage 1-5,  hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, self managed dialysis, and transplantation. The revised standards also now include information on Acute kidney Injury and Ethics.

CANNT gratefully acknowledges Amgen Canada for their support in the cost of translating these standards into French.

If you have any questions, please contact the CANNT National Office.
