The following question was posed by a CANNT member recently:
What are our professional boundaries when caring for patients and their families? In my unit, some patients offer us gifts to thank us for the care we provide, ask us to socialize with them (for example, go to dinner, attend a special family occasion). One of our staff members drives a patient home from treatment. Also, sometimes personal relationships develop. How should we be responding and acting in these situations?
