Marilyn Muir, CANNT President
2011-2012
Spring is here...
the sun is shining, the birds are singing and there is newness in the air. Spring is my favorite season. It is filled with possiblity and there is so much to look forward to (like out CANNT conference in October). I hope to see many of you there!
I'm very honored to be involved in opening the newest dialysis unit in the Manitoba Renal Program. The Hodgson dialysis unit officially opened on March 21st and will be able to accommodate 12 patients. This allows them to dialyze in their own community and saves them from travelling up to 400 kilomters 3 times per week. It was a lot of hard work, but seeing the final result has been very rewarding.
Many nephrology nurses will be writing the CNA certification exam on April 21st. I wish you all congratulations and commend you for taking this next step in your nephrology career. I have been a CNA certified nephrology nurse for 11 years; I know preparing for this exam is a huge committment and you should all be very proud.
February 2012
February is almost over…which means the deadline for “call for abstracts” is fast approaching. Please remember March 1st is the deadline to submit your abstract for our CANNT conference in Ottawa.
What a beautiful winter we have been experiencing here in Winnipeg. I know that a lot of people confuse Winnipeg with “Winter-peg”, but I am pleased to say that is not the case this year. Every day feels like spring is just around the corner. Spring time brings a feeling of rejuvenation…it makes me feel like anything is possible. Spring also brings the deadline for applying for the many grants and bursaries sponsored by CANNT and Amgen. Please see the CANNT website for more information, but don’t miss out on the fabulous funding opportunities we have. May 1st is the deadline for applications for the awards/bursaries.
FYI…spring time is also a great time to encourage a friend to become a CANNT member!
How are you doing with my last challenge? Have you been taking care of yourself? Have you reconnected with why you chose to become a nephrology health care provider? How is your enthusiasm for what you do? When is the last time you celebrated something or someone?
What’s new in your units? If any of you are interested in becoming a unit liaison, please contact the CANNT office, or send me an email mrmuir@hsc.mb.ca. We are always looking for volunteers to become more involved in our association.
Until next time, keep on celebrating ![]()
